Greek Theatre increases my love towards learning theatre. In my opinion, Greek theatre has its own uniqueness and it very interesting to learn. The play ‘King Oedipus’ by Sophocles is a very catchy play as I like the way it is being plotted and the climax of the story has a very fascinating twist, instantly becoming the first play ever that finally gain my full attention during reading of the play. This play subsequently increases my understanding of the term ‘Oedipus Complex’, which means; the conflict in a male child who desires his mother and has a will to replace his father. The plot in the play ‘King Oedipus’ makes it easier for me to comprehend its actual situation.

I have never watched a live stage theatre performance before and this course requires me to watch a theatre show. I am looking forward to it as my interest in theatre and also performing on stage increases deeply after attending this course.

I have read the play Oedipus Rex by Sophocles and apparently, it fails to grab my attention as I don’t like the issues Sophocles tried to highlight. I am quite surprised that Hidayah said this play is the first play ever that gains her full attention during reading the play as for me, I don’t think that Oedipus Rex is as interesting as that. But I do agree with her that I get a better understanding of the term ‘Oedipus Complex’ after reading the play. Like Hidayah, I now realize the values and the criteria of a good play. I get to know lots of new terms and one of them is catharsis, the one that I like the most because it shows how the characters in a play are able to get close to audience as they sort of share their feelings. Well, when I write this comment, we have actually watched a play but like me, I bet Hidayah too, does not want that particular play will be the first and the last play that we watch so hopefully, we can go and watch more plays some other days!
